Distinctive Unit Insignia
A silver color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches (2.86cm) in height overall consisting of a red Greek cross between two palmetto trees, trunks silver and foliage green and hanging over the top of the cross, all enclosed at the bottom by a silver color scroll inscribed "PREVENT AND RESTORE" in maroon letters.
Maroon and white (silver) are the colors traditionally associated with the Medical Corps. The red Greek cross is a symbol of health and healing and typifies the unit's mission and motto. The palmetto trees denote the unit's location in South Carolina, "The Palmetto State."
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 June 1980. It was cancelled effective 30 September 2016, when the unit was discontinued.
